What makes theatre unique
It is left up to the audience to think, comprehend, and feel the performance on their own. Theatre is different from other arts because it is movement and voice and telling a story. It is bringing words from a page to life.
But it is so much more than that. It incorporates many different art forms into one piece of art. Think about it. You can go to the theatre and see individuals using speech that may have been taken from a piece of literature and emotion while acting on stage. They may be singing to one another.
There may be musical sounds or dance included. Even an opera or a musical, though, is more than just music. Yet, these things are all part of the theatre. This distinguished, well-rounded artform that is designed to hold the attention of others for long periods of time - and be remembered for a lifetime - sets it apart on its own.
This is theatre.
